Center for Improving Qualified Activity in Life of People with Disabilities (CIQAL) held a discussion on 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence on Monday (28/11). CIQAL and disability communities in Yogyakarta hope government will enact the Anti-sexual Violence Law (RUU Pencegahan Kekerasan Seksual) to ensure women’s and people with disabilities’ rights are in place. Supported by MAMPU, CIQAL also invited civil society organisations, journalists and students in Yogyakarta.

Ibnu Sukaca, MAMPU-CIQAL program coordinator said, “We aim to share information to the public on disability and sexual violence issues in Yogyakarta.”

Ibnu added, “We hope government and Legislative will enact the Anti-sexual Violence Law (RUU Pencegahan Kekerasan Seksual) since National Legislation Program 2016 will be held in a month. This law includes a clause which protects women with disabilities’ rights.”

Other than this discussion, CIQAL and its stakeholders have been sending short message services (SMS) throughout the week to share information on disability and sexual violence and held a peace oration on 4th December 2016. Both activities were to support the enactment of the Anti-sexual Violence Law (RUU Pencegahan Kekerasan Seksual).
