Ministry of Manpower and Migrant CARE, one of MAMPU’s partners, held a Program Review of Productive Migrant Village (Desmigratif) and Desmigratif and the Migrant Workers Village (Desbumi) integration MoU Signing  in Kuripan, Wonosobo, Central Java on Friday (30/12).

Desmigratif and Desbumi integration program is a joint program of Ministry of Manpower and Migrant CARE to empower, provide protection and improve assistance for Indonesian migrant workers (TKI).

In his speech, Minister of Manpower, Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri, S. Ag., M.Sc. explained about four main activities of Desmigratif program. First, government focuses on development of migration service center in village hall where prospective migrant workers could access any information. Some information provided are labor market, vocational guidance and document processing. Second, government supports productive enterprises to develop migrant workers’ skills and help them earn financial freedom through their enterprises. This activity includes skills training and business assistance for migrant workers. Third, local government develops parenting community to assist migrant workers and their children. In this activity, migrant workers’ parents and spouses are taught how to raise and take care of their children. Fourth, government initiates local cooperatives in migrant workers’ regions to strengthen their productive enterprises.

In practice, Kuripan village in Central Java and Kenanga village in West Java were chosen as the pilot project. Soon, government will implement Desmigratif program in North Sumatera, Lampung, Banten, East Java, West Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

Hanif also encouraged government and public to work hand in hand in protecting Indonesian migrant workers’ rights.

“Government will guarantee the workers’ safety and security in the destined country during and post migration. They will also follow up the process until the migrant workers return to the home country. We have to ensure that migrant workers will experience secure, fast, easy and low-cost services. Thus, we bring Desmigratif as an answer to protect migrant workers,” Hanif said.

Hopefully, this program could ensure migrant workers’ rights and improve economy in migrant workers’ villages.
