Commemorating a Decade of Journey, Center for Political Studies (Puskapol) of Universitas Indonesia Launched a Book

Center for Political Studies (Puskapol) of Universitas Indonesia (UI) launched a book entitled A Decade of Center for Political Studies of UI and held Discussion on Challenges in Building a Research Institution with Integrity at Hotel Bidakara, South Jakarta on Tuesday (10/01).

The event was held to commemorate a decade journey of Puskapol UI in producing various researches and conducting political education for communities in Indonesia including to improve women’s leadership and representation in parliament. MAMPU made an appearance in the event to express their appreciation for the success of Puskapol UI as a credible research institution.

Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UI, Dr. Arie Setiabudi Soesilo, M.Sc. and Chairman of the Department of Political Science, FISIP UI, Julian Aldrin Pasha, S.IP, M.A., Ph.D., attended the event and gave the opening speech.

In his speech, Dean of the FISIP UI, Arie Setiabudi expressed his hope for current partnership between Puskapol UI and its partnership. Julian Aldrin, the Chairman of the Department of Political Science expressed similar appreciation to their partners who have supported Puskapol UI along the way.

“Puskapol UI would not be here without your support. We are grateful for your tremendous support,” Julian said.

Julian added that Puskapol UI will continue to support women’s representation in parliament in the future.

“In the past few years, Puskapol UI has watched over the policy which sets a quota for women to make up 30 percent of political candidates in parliament. In the future, Puskapol UI will remain consistent in supporting women participation in parliament. Hopefully, we will be able to give further contribution in creating a sound political system for good governance,” Julian said.

The event gathered positive responses from the participants. Participants, particularly women of political parties inspired by Puskapol UI contribution in producing scientific researches, conducting leadership and policy-making trainings.

Heni, one of the participants from the General Election Commission (KPU) of Kuningan District expressed her gratitude to Puskapol UI.

“I am proud to be a participant of Women Leading Training held by Puskapol UI. I really appreciate their kind intention to improve women’s capacity in leadership,” Heni said.

Hopefully, Puskapol UI could constantly produce scientific researches and conduct political education for public, particularly for women.

In her closing speech, Executive Director of Puskapol UI Periode 2006 – 2016, Sri Budi Eko Wardhani hopes that in future Puskapol UI will consistently support women in fighting for their rights in parliament and politics.

“Let’s fight for women representation in politics and parliaments!” Dhani said.

MAMPU in collaboration with Center for Political Studies (Puskapol) of Universitas Indonesia held a training on policy design. The training aimed to improve capabilities of MAMPU’s partners in advocating policy in Indonesia.
