‘Aisyiyah and Local Health Agency Hold Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Training

On October 17, ‘Aisyiyah in Demak collaborated with the Public Health Office and the Regional People’s Representatives Assembly (DPRD)  training “Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Early Detection with Visual Inspection Acetic Acid (VIA) Methods for Public Health Center Workers Batch I in Demak.”

The training aims to improve health care facilities in Demak, in particular the early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer services. It discussed the diagnosis, treatment and recovery aspects of managing patients with breast cancer and cervical cancer.

Head of Public Health Department Institute (BPTPK) of Central Java, Taufik Kurrachman, S.K.M, Kes. led the opening ceremony. The event is also attended by Head of Demak Public Health Office, dr. Joko Sarwono, Head of Central Java Health Office Disease Prevention (P2) Division, Akhmad Saifuddin, S.K.M, DAP & E, a representative of Obstetrics and Gynecology Society of Indonesia (POGI) in Demak, dr. Gunawan, SpOG and dr. Hanafi, SpOG. Demak Family Welfare Program (PKK), Suntari Natsir and a regional representative of ‘Aisyiyah Demak, Mrs. Hamdanah, M.Sc.

Dra. Sri Suryaningsih of the ‘Aisyiyah Demak Regional Representative (PDA) said, “Healthcare providers should have specific knowledge relevant to a breast cancer and cervical cancer, the most common cancers among women in Indonesia. Based on previous report, only 2 of 37 midwives held the IVA certification.”

The training took place due to advocacy by ‘Aisyiyah to the Demak Health Office and the Regional People’s Representatives Assembly to support healthcare providers skill development in Demak. ‘Aisyiyah’s reproductive health program has been supported by MAMPU since 2015. “In 2015, 80 midwives were trained in the program supported by MAMPU. In this year program supported by Indonesian Public Health Office, 20 doctors and 20 midwives were trained and divided into two batches,” Suryaningsih said.

The IVA Training Team of Central Java and Demak, representatives of Provincial and Regional Health Offices, a representative of Indonesian Doctor Association (IDI) of Demak and Demak Inspectorate came to show some support.

Suryaningsih stated that ‘Aisyiyah was very satisfied with the program implementation. Now, all communities in Demak can access comprehensive and good quality services. As a follow up action of IVA program, government, Demak Health Office and ‘Aisyiyah will provide a cryotherapy machine, an online reporting system and IVA method improvement.
