On October 23, ‘Aisyiyah went Pink to commemorate Breast Cancer Day. One of the events supported by MAMPU was entitled “Hari Kanker Payudara, Tabligh Akbar dan Launching Peduli Gisi: Donasimu, Selamatkan Ibu.”

The Vice Regent of Pangkep, Syahban Sammana gave the opening speech stating his appreciation for the crowd who supported the cause and those who have prepared for the event. More than 5000 entry coupons purchased on that day.

The pink day was filled with performing art shows, reproductive health campaign and the scholarships for students in need.

In her speech, the Regional Leader of ‘Aisyiyah Pangkep, Dra. Sri Hajati Fachrul Islam explained that this event was conducted as a part of Breast Cancer Day commemoration. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Indonesia. In order to answer to this challenge, ‘Aisyiyah has two actions. ‘Aisyiyah to distribute a module on community-based breast and cervical cancer survival guide and launch their GISI program.

GISI is an acronym for Gerakan Infaq (ZIS) Sayang Ibu. It is a movement which provides and distributes Zakat Infaq Shodaqah (ZIS) to improve maternal and reproductive health. Through GISI, ‘Aisyiyah aims to raise awareness on the importance of Zakat to tackle reproductive health issues. Furthermore, ‘Aisyiyah wants to introduce the concept of using the ZIS’ fund to answer reproductive health issues with the community, such as funding the VIA test/pap smear inspection, Sadarnis (Breast Self-Exam), financing the treatment of cancer, childbirth and family planning services for women in need.

“One of the importance of an early breast cancer detection is the lack of health facilities in the island. An early detection, ensure an early treatment to take place. Hopefully, the good cooperation between ‘Aisyiyah and Local Government (PEMDA) will continue to grow,” said Dr. Latif Indriani, The Public Health Office Chief of Pangkep.
