On Tuesday, 11 December 2018, MAMPU and Women’s Health Foundation (YKP) organised a Brown Bag Lunch focusing on dating violence called “Don’t Shut Your Eyes: Stop Violence against Women.” The discussion, which took place at Jakarta Senior High School No. 54, was moderated by Intan Febriani from the MAMPU Program and featured Nanda Dwinta from YKP and M. Rezeky from the New Men’s Alliance (Aliansi Laki-Laki Baru) as speakers. Seventy enthusiastic year 10 and 11 students attended the discussion.
Nanda emphasized the importance of speaking out against violence and ensuring gender equality in all areas, including girls’ equal right to education.
Rezeky explained that as a man, maintaining healthy relationships requires an open mind, and treating others with respect. It was explained to the participants that women victims of violence often face difficulties in accessing legal and medical services. Victims can also face social judgement from their own families and their community as a result of the stigma that follows them.
