MAMPU Program Conducts Joint Visit with BAPPENAS and DFAT Australia to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara

To monitor the progress of MAMPU program activities, the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), accompanied by the MAMPU Team, visited MAMPU working areas in three districts in West Nusa Tenggara for two days on 25-26 January 2018.
Key Partner activities and achievements which are empowering women and amplifying their voice and influence in decision making at the grassroots are highlighted below:
- Eastern Indonesia Knowledge Exchange Foundation (BaKTI) in Labuan Haji Village, East Lombok District
The delegation reviewed the activities and achievements of BaKTI in East Lombok:
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BaKTI and the local parliament (DPRD) of Lombok District for the coordination of MAMPU Program.
- Policy advocacy to improve services for women victims of violence with the establishment of the District Service for the Womenâs Empowerment and Child Protection Service (DP3KB) strategic plan (Renstra), SOP of Integrated Services Centre for Women and Childrenâs Empowerment (P2TP2A), and Work and Budget Plan which is gender responsive.
- BaKTIâs Participatory Recess initiative in East Lombok District allows the community to convey information directly to members of parliament.
- Involvement of poor women in decision-making processes, especially through development planning consultation (Musrenbang), from village to district level.
- Migrant CARE and sub-partner Perkumpulan Panca Karsa (PPK) in Nyerot Village, Central Lombok District
The delegation reviewed the progress of the implementation of the âVillage that Cares for Migrant Workersâ (DESBUMI) model in Nyerot village:
- Village Regulations (Perdes) on protection of migrant workers from Nyerot Village.
- There is an increase in Desbumi’s implementing capacity in assisting cases that are networked with the community police unit (Bintara Pembina Keamanan Ketertiban Masyarakat, Babinkantibmas) and related agencies.
- PEKKA (Foundation for Empowerment of Women Heads of Family) in Gemel Village, Central Lombok District
The delegation speak with PEKKA members about community strengthening:
- The strengthening of the community stems from a change of perspective among the women members of
- The commitment of PEKKA members to supporting the government’s social protection program is in line with their increasing knowledge of the issue.
- The involvement of PEKKA members in the village development process whether it be as members of the village verification team or facilitators who disseminate information about the social protection programs.
- The PEKKA team in Central Lombok District receives a DIPA (Budget Implementation Form) from the Religious Courts of Praya to assist with marriages.
- LPSDM (Lembaga Pengembangan Sumber Daya Mitra or Partner Resources Development Institute), sub-partner of KAPAL Perempuan Institute in Sokong Village, North Lombok Regency

Delegates learn of the impact of empowering women through the School of Women (Sekolah Perempuan) in Sokong Village:
- Since 2014, the School of Women (SP) has boosted the confidence and critical awareness of women from Sokong village who are poor.
- SP members are advocating for village development through their engagement in the womenâs development planning consultation (Musrenbang Perempuan) as well as the village-wide development planning consultation in Sokong village (Village Musrenbang)
- SP members manage savings and loan business funds, with a current value of IDR 30 million, which are used to help improve the economic welfare of women in the
- Village budget has been allocated for SP which will be used for comparative studies in East Lombok and as venture capital.
- The Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) stipulates that all villages in North Lombok District are required to establish a School of Women.
- The Regional Budget (APBD) of North Lombok Regency for 2018 allocates funds for replication of ten SP in ten
