The Trade Union Rights Center (TURC), one of the MAMPU Program partners working that focuses on improving employment conditions and eliminating discrimination in the workplace, held the Women Home Workers Festival 2017 at the Jakarta Creative Hub, 22-23 December 2017. Open to the public, the festival involved a series of activities on Friday and Saturday such as panel discussions, research seminars on the conditions of home workers in the shoe sector supply chain, film screenings, and the working practices of home workers. The festival also featured exhibitions of products made by women home workers and art installations by an organization supporting home workers and students of Jakarta Institute of Arts. Also participating were a number of civil society organizations, including other MAMPU Program partners ─ KPI (Indonesian Women’s Coalition), MWPRI (Indonesian Women Housing Partners), BITRA (Indonesian Rural Skills Training Foundation), and PEKKA (Women’s Empowerment Foundation) as well as home workers organizations from Cirebon, Tangerang and Sukabumi.

It is the hope of Evania Putri, Chief Executive of the Women Home Workers Festival, that the Festival “…can serve as a bridge and a joint discussion space to find solutions for the improvement of working conditions of informal sector workers, and to become a tangible manifestation of efforst to push for legal protection for home-based workers who are predominantly women.”
