On 27 to 30 September 2016, ‘Aisyiyah Sambas, supported by MAMPU Program, in collaboration with the Sambas District Health Office, West Kalimantan Province, held a VIA/ Papsmear training for health workers (doctors and nurses). There were 25 midwives and 2 doctors from eight districts in Sambas who joined the training. This activity took place in the Sambas District Health Office Hall.
Nurfauzah, MAMPU – ‘Aisyiyah Sambas team, mentioned that this activity can be implemented due to good cooperation between ‘Aisyiyah and Local Government. The objective of the training is to increase the number of competent and certified health workers to carry out the VIA/ Papsmear inspection service for the public. This four-day training consists of two parts: VIA/ Pap Smear training and VIA inspection practices.
Fauzah said, “At first, the participants of VIA inspection practice are only BSA (Balai Sakinah ‘Aisyiyah) representative. However, it turns out the Health center visitors also interested to join the VIA inspection. In the end, there is 143 people who joined it. From the inspection, it was found two people with positive VIA and 3 people with cervicitis,” said Fauzah.
In the future, Fauzah hopes that in every health center in Sambas has VIA/ Pap Smear inspection services. Currently, there is only two hospitals and two health centers in Sambas that have the equipment for VIA/ Pap smear inspection.
“We hope in the future, every district in Sambas has VIA/ Pap Smear inspection service in order to facilitate and give access to public”, said Fauzah.
