On 20 – 23 May 2017, PEKKA (Empowerment of Women Heads of Families), supported by MAMPU, held training and national workshops of Pekka unions in Bekasi.

The event, entitled “Improving the Quality of the Life of the Poor through Access and Control to the Social Protection Program”, aims to:

  1. To reflect on the achievements and progress of PEKKA activities in the past year.
  2. Improve knowledge of PEKKA cadres and administrators on social protection programs.
  3. Improve the skills of PEKKA cadres and administrators in implementing KLIK PEKKA and policy advocacy.

There were 60 participants who coming from 20 provinces of PEKKA region. They are representatives of all PEKKA working areas from all districts which supported by MAMPU.

During the workshop, participants were divided into two classes:

  1. A special class for region that will carry out social protection activities as part of women’s leadership, where cadres and trained officers should be able to retrain and develop them in other areas.
  2. Special classes to implement the program only. Participants in this class are mostly from areas that are still not strong enough in organisation management.

On the third day of the activity, a simulation of KLIK PEKKA was conducted, in which some participants acted as the reporting community and partly acted as KLIK executing officers. There are four tables in the simulation: registration desk, social protection desk, legal identity desk and violation desk. The results of the simulation were analysed together, on what information does not exist including what should and should not be done when performing the KLIK.

In addition to the simulation, participants were also trained to plan activities related to social protection, create their plans, present them to union members and discuss how to evaluate the implementation of their activities. The last session is how to advocate for the village or village head to access the budget.

On the last day, the participants create “follow up – activity plan” (RKTL) together in the form of a poster. They make quantitative targets whom they can achieve in the next 6 months and when their activities will be implemented.
