On 23 August 2016, the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment (LP2M), one member of the Women’s Health Care Network (JP2K) and Yayasan Kesehatan Perempuan (YKP) which supported by MAMPU, conducted a workshop on the study results of National Health Insurance (JKN) implementation related to the women needs and sexual and reproductive health services. This event was held at the Office of Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Padang Pariaman Regency in West Sumatra.
The workshop aimed to disseminate the study results, which includes the reproductive health service coverage covered by BPJS, socialisation of national health insurance mechanism, policies and achievements of the Department of Health concerning in BPJS’s policy on reproductive health and sexual, and follow-up plan of the JKN study results for advocacy.
Based on study results, it was found that there are still many problems with the collection of BPJS membership, especially the recipient of Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) for the poor people. There are candidates who deserve to be the recipient, but not registered yet, or otherwise.
Reproductive health services knowledge of people and stakeholders needs to be improved. They have limited understanding about reproductive health services. They thought that reproductive health services only included antenatal and childbirth.
In addition, reproductive health for adolescent is still a chore for all parties because in reality, many adolescents are supposed to obtain reproductive health services as well. While Community Health Center (Puskesmas) still encountered many obstacles in the implementation of services such as: expired JKN card, unmatch card with the region, and low level of understanding in BPJS service mechanisms, etc.
LP2M also mentioned the importance of involving men in the socialisation of reproductive health. Reproductive health services, like family planning and cancer screening, needs to get the support from men, especially by husbands to their wives.
The workshop was attended by 34 representatives from the Department of Health, BPJS, Bappeda, Department of Social, Manpower and Transmigration, and the Women’s Community Empowerment Board, BKKBD, Jarpuk HIPPMA, as well as representatives from 12 health centers and seven districts’Â representatives.
