TURC: Home Workers and Trade Unions Public Hearing to the Commission E DPRD and BPJS in Central Java Province

On 16 September 2016, the representatives of Labor Unions and Home Workers from Semarang, Solo, Sukoharjo, and Pekalongan conducted public hearing to the Commission E, Regional People’s Representative Assembly (DPRD) Central Java Province and Health Social Security Agency (BPJS) Provincial Office in Semarang, Central Java.

The public hearing was facilitated by Trade Union Rights Centre (TURC). TURC aimed to bring Home Workers and labor union representatives together to collaborate and map the field findings related to the implementation of the National Health Insurance program (JKN) which has been ongoing since 2014.

On the occasion, the representatives of labor union and home workers mentioned about problems they found in the field to the Commission E DPRD and BPJS, which related to BPJS membership, health facilities (basic and advanced), referral system, lack of access for recipient of contribution (PBI) for unemployed workers.

The representatives of Home Workers also submited recommendations to the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) of Central Java Province and the Health Insurance Supervision Agency of Central Java province in order to become a reference and consideration to fix the health care system.

Hopefully, the existence of these recommendations can maximise the implementation of the National Health Insurance integration in order to stop the chain of impoverishment of the people who are sick.
