Yayasan Kesehatan Perempuan: Book Launching about Child Marriage

On 19 July 2016, Women’s Health Foundation (YKP) held a book launching event titled “Cutting Child Marriage – Field Experience in Bondowoso, East Java”. The event was held at the Ministry of Education and Culture, and it was conducted in commemoration of the 15th YKP anniversary.

The book launch was accompanied with a talkshow with the speakers, such as: Drs. H. Amin Said Husni (Regent of Bondowoso), Ririn Sefsani (gender specialist) and Lies Marcoes (women activists). They explained and explored the phenomenon of child marriage in Indonesia and Bondowoso’s achievement in reducing the child marriagenumber. Zumrotin K. Susilo, the chair of YKP, also mentioned about problems arising from child marriage, in terms of health, social and economic aspects.

As the closing, Hilmar Farid, the General Director of Culture in the Ministry, said that the issue of child marriage is parts of culture problem. He invited various elements of society to work together and provide inputs to find solutions and strategy to solve the problem.
