YKS: Advocacy of Regional Regulation on Women and Children Protection in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi

Yayasan Kombongan Situru (YKS), partner of BaKTI in MAMPU Program in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, advocating the creation of Tana Toraja Regional Regulation (Perda) on the Protection of Women and Children (PPA).

This regional regulation was being advocated by the Tana Toraja Parliament through Initiative Rights. The initiator of the regulation is 6 women MPs of Tana Toraja Parliament.

To begin the advocacy process, YKS has developed the plan of communication and PPA advocacy regulation. YKS also has held meetings and discussions with Welem Sambolangi (Chairman of the Tana Toraja Parliament), Paulus Paonganan (Chairman of the Bapperda – Tana Toraja Parliament), dr. Elis Batti (one of the initiators of PPA Regulation), and Damoris Sembiring (Secretary of Tana Toraja Parliament).

From the meeting results on 16 August 2016, it was agreed that YKS will accompany the process of drafting and preparation of the academic paper and regional regulation draft of Protection of Women and Children. YKS has also conducted activities for socialisation and reinforcement regarding the protection of women and children, technical assistance related to working units and legislators to accelerate the creation of this regulation.
