Becoming Disability Inclusive with the MAMPU Program

26 July 2019
Author: Amron Hamdi

On 2-3 May 2019, the MAMPU Program hosted a workshop in Yogyakarta to train participants on how to develop strategies and increase their networks to incorporate the disability movement in their respective fields. Approximately 50 participants — representing MAMPU and MAMPU Partners from 27 provinces — actively studied how to apply the mainstreaming principles of disability inclusion into their working pillars, which generally consist of: community organising, developing models and approaches, networks and coalitions, and collective advocacy. Towards the end of the training session, each of the organisations was divided into groups based on their thematic focus: Social protection, homeworkers, migrant workers, women’s health and nutrition, and reducing violence against women. The groups then formulated plans that documented how they will work to include values of disability inclusion into their organisations’ operations, and incorporate the values in key documents like code of ethics, budgets or advocacy plans.
