MAMPU Partners Discuss Violence against Women in the SMERU Development Study Forum

On 10 October 2019, representatives of MAMPU Partners the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) and the Service Providers Forum (FPL) spoke at the Development Study Forum seminar series hosted by SMERU. During the Forum, which was held at the Jakarta City Hall, Komnas Perempuan Chairperson Azriana R. Manalu talked about the recent developments regarding cases of violence against women in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, FPL Director Veni Siregar provided an update about the efforts being made by community-based organisations to prevent and handle cases of violence against women. Veni underlined the importance of cooperation and coordination with law enforcement to respond to cases of violence against women. She explained that coordination is still lacking, including in Jakarta. Veni talked about the Integrated Criminal Justice System for the Handling of Cases of Violence against Women (SPPT-PKKTP) as a way to increase this much-needed coordination. SPPT- PKKTP is an integrated service system that prioritises multi-party cooperation for the handling of cases of violence against women. The system is designed to increase women’s access to services and justice through the judicial system.

Twenty organisations in FPL are supported by the MAMPU Program to work with government to implement the SPPT- PKKTP concept in five provinces: Jakarta, Riau Islands, Central Java, Southeast Sulawesi and Maluku.
