From October 2016 to October 2019, the Women’s Crisis Center (WCC) Jombang documented 266 cases of violence against women in Jombang District; sixty-five percent of these cases involved sexual violence against school-aged girls. In response to this alarming pattern, WCC Jombang launched a ‘Jombang Against Sexual Violence’ campaign in three schools, namely the State Middle High School (SMP)1 Peterongan, State Primary School 1 Mancar, and State Primary School 1 Kepuhkembeng. The campaign was aimed at improving understanding amongst students and teachers about sexual violence against children and how to prevent it. The theme was chosen to commemorate the international 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign and invite educational institutions in Jombang to join in the fight against sexual violence that affects women and children everywhere.
