‘Aisyiyah Sambas Raising Awareness on Maternal and Reproductive Health

‘Aisyiyah Sambas held Pink Blue Day as a part of ‘Aisyiyah – MAMPU national program on Sunday (30/10). The representives of ‘Aisyiyah Sambas, Muhammadiyah, Sejangkung, Lazismu and Sambas Police Office (Polres), local sub-district heads and community leaders came to show their support. This event aims to raise people awareness on reproductive and maternal health in Indonesia, specifically in Sambas.
‘Aisyiyah Sambas along with all ‘Aisyiyah Regional Offices (PDA) launched Gerakan Infaq Sayang Ibu (GISI) collaborated with Lazismu. Through GISI, ‘Aisyiyah Sambas introduced the concept of using their alms to fund cancer early inspection, breast cancer, cervical cancer and family planning facilities.
“Through GISI, ‘Aisyiyah commits to support government in overcoming challenges in maternal and reproductive health issues, in particular breast cancer and cervical cancer as the most common cancer occured among women in Indonesia.” said Sri Punti Iryani, Chairman of ‘Aisyiyah Sambas.
According to Nurfauzah, a member of MAMPU – ‘Aisyiyah program, “It is important that anyone with breast and/or cervical cancer knows where to go for information and support. Through GISI, ‘Aisyiyah aims to reach more people who are in need to access our support services. We are committed to give real actions.”
‘Aisyiyah has held series of activities leading to Pink Blue Day throughout October. Information sessions on cancer were held in various villages in Sambas such as Jirak, Lumbang, Kartu, Setalik, Penangkalan and Tengguli which aims to create understanding on the issue at grassroots level. Fruthermore, there was also signing of commitment letters from Sambas’ local government, religious leaders, Family Welfare Program (PKK) leaders and community leaders to support GISI program in overcoming reproductive health issues.
In the Pink Blue Day celebration, there were signing of an MoU between ‘Aisyiyah Sambas and Lazismu, ‘Aisyiyah’s song competition award and alms raising for GISI program.
