Along with Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (SEKNAS FITRA), MAMPU Held an Internal Training on Gender Responsive Budgeting System

MAMPU in collaboration with Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (SEKNAS FITRA) conducted an internal training for MAMPU team on gender responsive budgeting system in Setiabudi, Jakarta on Tuesday (31/1). Misbahul Hasan, Research Manager of SEKNAS FITRA and Data and Publication Coordinator of FITRA, Yenti Nurhidayat were the facilitators of the event.

The training aimed to improve MAMPU team’s capacities to assist partners in advocating gender responsive budgeting. MAMPU Team Leader, Caroline Tupamahu gave the opening speech. In her speech, Caroline emphasised the importance of this training seeing that one of MAMPU’s partners key activities is advocating a gender responsive budgeting.

“It is important for us to assist our partners in analyzing government budgets. To ensure that they answer to various public’s needs based on the gender analysis of the needs,” Caroline said.

Related to this, Misbah and Yenti encouraged MAMPU team to analyse gender aggregate data which were taken from Human Development Index, released by The Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). Other than that, participants also did a quick analysis on how the data reflect conditions and needs of communities that should be answered by the government through development and budgeting plans.

Furthermore, this training refreshed MAMPU team’s understanding on government’s budgeting process as well as ways possible for partners to advocate their interests. In this training, MAMPU team was also encouraged to apply gender analysis instruments to directly analyse budgeting drafts of local government.
