Australian Embassy Visited “Desbumi” in Sumbersalak, Jember, East Java

On 1 September 2016, the Australian Embassy with representatives from MAMPU Program and Migrant CARE visited Sumbersalak village, Ledokombo sub-district, Jember Regency, East Java, for evaluation and monitoring of DESBUMI program which implemented by the Tanoker Ledokombo (TANOKER).
Sumbersalak village is a village that apply community based data collecting through data centers (DESBUMI) services, which includes information services, document management, case management, economic empowerment, socialisation, data collection and village regulations. The village also implemented protection activities and welfare improvement for migrant workers and their members.
The village also has Sumbersalak Village Regulation No. 5 year 2015 on the Protection of Indonesian Workers and Family Members from the Sumbersalak village. TheSumbersalak village government also provides village funds for training and coaching of migrant workers in 2016, so that economic empowerment of migrant workers in the village can be encouraged. Tanoker also trained migrant workers in the village to make a variety of crafts, such as: clothes, bags, traditional toys, home decoration, and other souvenirs.
According to Director of Tanoker Ledokombo, Suporahardjo, in Sumbersalak village until October 2015 there were 160 people who work abroad. Meanwhile, from January to March 2016, there were 156 migrant workers.
