From 26 September to 1 October 2016, MAMPU Program held an evidence-based advocacy training in Yogyakarta for MAMPU Partners. This training was a cooperation between MAMPU with Melbourne School of Governance (MSoG), University of Melbourne Australia and Gadjah Mada University, that aims to support MAMPU partners in the data use and evidence to strengthen their advocacy efforts.

The use of data and evidence can help to improve the effectiveness of advocacy efforts. This approach adopted by the growing number of community-based organisations, government, parliament and various research institutes.

The material in this training focused on understanding and use of various forms of data and evidence that can be used for advocacy, and improved understanding of the process of policy making, design research plan, as well as the packaging of data and information to support advocacy.

The training was attended by 26 participants from various MAMPU partners and sub-partners. It presented various source-persons and practitioners from MAMPU, the University of Melbourne and the University of Gadjah Mada.

With applicative and interactive methods, participants were invited to practice using official data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Government of Indonesia in measuring poverty in Indonesia. In addition, the participants also practiced advocacy planning and implementation through simulation and presented it in front of panelists.
