FPLs Design New Guidelines for Anti-Violence Against Women Campaign
17 March 2017Author: admin
MAMPU supported its partners, Forum Pengada Layanan (FPLs or women’s crisis centers) to develop a campaign guideline, through a workshop on March 14 -15, 2017 in Bogor. FPLs are actively working on one of MAMPU’s themes: reducing violence against women (VAW). Together, this network of 20 organisations provide front-line services to women who experience violence. They also play a key role in regional advocacy around VAW.
Campaigns are part of FPLs’ daily work. They campaign to raise public awareness around VAW, to encourage victims to report their cases, and for the government to ensure protection of women’s and victims’ rights, and many others.
While they have conducted various campaigns over many years, FPLs are keen to learn and continue to improve the quality of their campaigns. The guideline aims to help them to conduct betters campaigns, with bigger impact. It was developed based on FPLs previous experience in this area.
In the lead up to the workshop, MAMPU helped participants to reflect on their previous experience to date. How do they usually plan a campaign? Who do they usually target? What challenges do they experience? Their answers were discussed at the workshop. Participants also shared their successes and failures around conducting campaigns.
Participants worked together to identify the content of the guideline and ensure that it covered their own needs. There was a lot of sharing and information exchange throughout the workshop. Technical aspects also came up, which helped participants to learned new things about this, too.
The workshop involved representatives from Swara Parangpuan, LBH APIK Jakarta, LBH APIK Aceh, LRC-KJHAM, SAPA Institut, the National Commission on Violence against Women, Sahabat Perempuan, DPN FPL or national board of directors.
