Gender Watch Program Monitoring and Evaluation in Pangkajene Islands, South Sulawesi

On 24th August 2016, KAPAL Perempuan and Yayasan Pengkajian Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (YKPM) held a discussion, monitoring, and evaluation (M & E) in Mattiro Uleng village, Tuppabiring Luikang Utara sub-district, Pangkajene Islands Regency, South Sulawesi.
This activity aimed to look at the Gender Watch program achievements during the last six months, and see how the execution of the next program based on the achievements and challenges faced. Gender Watch is an initiatives from KAPAL Perempuan, which supported by MAMPU, to monitor three parties; civil society, the government in village/ sub-district, district and provincial level, and also health program beneficiaries. There are four aspects to be monitored in this program, such as: input, process, results and impact.
Some representatives were attended the activity, such as: representatives of the Multi Stakeholder Forum (MSF), which derives from the elements of village officials, Village Consultative Body (BPD), head of the health center, midwife and Community Leaders, as well as members of the School of Women (SP) of four villages of the Gender Watch program. While, from School of Women, there were representatives from 10 islands spread over four villages; Mattiro Uleng, Mattiro Bombang, Mattiro Baji and Mattiro Kanja. Those who were attended were School of Women members who become Supervisory Committee in the village.
Both of MSF and SP members’ villages, they feel the benefit of School of Women’s presence. It has changed the role of women in the island, from the passive women into government partners on monitoring the construction activities on the island.
As a follow up, Pangkajene Islands government included the plan of the replication of 5 School of Women into its Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) for 2017-2021 period.
