How MAMPU is Doing Development Differently
29 March 2017Author: admin
MAMPU participated in the Doing Development Differently: Jakarta Workshop (DDD4) on the Implementing the New Development Agenda, 15-16 March 2017. The event was jointly conducted by Bappenas, the World Bank Indonesia, KOMPAK Program and Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI), with support from the Australian Government.
MAMPU shared its theory of change on how to do development differently in one of the session called Marketplace on the first day, with other development projects and institutions such as Jakarta Poverty Action Lab; KOMPAK; The World Bank; KSI; INOVASI; Clear Horizon; UNDP; Development Leadership Program; PEDULI and Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Justice (AIPJ).
In the marketplace, MAMPU presented that MAMPU is not âbusiness as usualâ in its design and approach. It was based on the idea that âwomenâs collective voice can result in policies, programs, and laws that are quite different from those that would have emerged without it. Providing an environment where womenâs voice can coalesce into a collective voice can thus promote womenâs agency and greater gender equality. The design also reflected the growing evidence around donors needing to be more flexible and provide opportunities for reform-minded people within government to work collectively to achieve positive results.
With this in mind, MAMPU gave seven CSOs grants and âspaceâ to come up with and test possible solutions around MAMPUâs thematic areas. They were guided by a number of principles â building on their strengths; the need to make widespread change; developing networks and links to government; bridging national and local level actions, and using an evidence base to advocate for change,. MAMPU also helped National CSO partners to develop their organisational capacity, advocacy and readiness for collective action.
