MAMPU Held Twitter Talk Show with Hannah Al Rashid, Joe Taslim and Lola Amaria

In commemoration of International Women’s day, MAMPU Program conducted a series of twitter talk show (Tweet Talk Live), inviting prominent social media influencers who support gender equality and women’s empowerment, which are Hannah Al Rashid, Joe Taslim and Lola Amaria.

Hannah Al Rashid, with more than 33K follower, is a prominent Indonesian actress who is also the Indonesian UN Mover to promote the achievement of SDG #5, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment; Joe Taslim, with more than 271K follower, is an actor who supports UN Women movement on He for She campaign; Lola Amaria, with more than 39K follower, is an actress and film director who has produced movies related to women’s empowerment such as women migrant workers and women labors.

The talk show conducted online through MAMPU’s twitter account, @ProgramMAMPU, and answered by the spokesperson through their twitter account as well. To participate in broader discussion, two hashtags: #IWD2017 and #beboldforchange, were used in the conversation. The hashtags are globally used to commemorate the International Women’s Day.

First talk with Hannah Al Rashid on the morning of March 7 at 8-9 AM was a great opening of the talk series. Hannah was very enthusiast discussing about the urgency to reduce violence against women. The talk started with question on the reason behind Hannah’s enthusiasm to be the UN mover for SDG #5. She explained that the decision was based on her personal experience in facing discrimination in her career as well as bad experience in facing sexual assault on Jakarta’s street. She shared various data on the challenges of violence against women in Indonesia. She also shared her statement to fight for violence, prejudice, and blaming against women. People participated in the discussions by sharing her tweets and asking more questions.

Second talk with Joe Taslim on March 7 at 7-8PM brought more nuance as the discussion were about men’s perspective on gender equality. The discussion started by him answering question on why he thinks men’s supports are needed for gender equality movement. He explained that it is important for everyone to support such movement, because equal opportunity for women will benefit not only women, but also family and the whole society. He also shared his view on how encourage men to do so. He emphasized on the importance of education within family by treating men and women in the family equally. He believes that men’s appreciation towards women started in the family.

The third talk with Lola Amaria was conducted on the next day, on the 8th of March at 7-8PM, discussing Lola’s experience in producing movie related women migrant workers. Lola shared her findings on the difference between the condition of women migrant workers in the Middle East countries and in Hongkong. She explained that women migrant workers in Hongkong tend to have better and safer condition because of better preparation and trainings for the migrant workers. However, challenges remain occurs and the improvement is needed. Furthermore, Lola also discussed her interest to bring up women issues in her next movie.

Some public figures, activists, institutions and communities related to gender equality and women’s empowerment issues participated in the conversation. Among other, such people and partners are Komnas Perempuan, Lentera, Hollaback Jakarta, Aliansi Laki-laki Baru, dr. Sophia Hage, Ligwina Hananto (a famous financial planner), Budhis Utami and Misi Misiyah of KAPAL Institute, and Wahyu Susilo of Migrant Care. The Australian Ambassador, Paul Grigson (@DubersAustralia) also RT-ed some tweets in the Tweet Talk with Lola Amaria.
