On 20 August 2016, PUPA Foundation Bengkulu, together with the Bengkulu City Department of Education and Culture, BPMPPKB Bengkulu City, and the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI), held a socialisation on Mechanisms of School Based Child Protection and Discussion of Teaching and Learning without violence. This event was supported by MAMPU.
Since 2014, PUPA Foundation with MAMPU, has been mentoring community (school-based). This advisory provides public education through dissemination, discussion, regular meetings and efforts to build cooperation with the school. This is for formulating complaint mechanism in children protection framework from various forms of violence and wrong treatment in schools. This assistance also connect schools with various parties outside the school’s institution that can help the referral process services.
To formulate a complaint mechanism, it needs involvement from all parties for child protection, such as build cooperation with HIMPSI (Indonesian Psychological Association) Bengkulu Region and PGRI Bengkulu.
Discussion to build school-based protection become the first step to develop a common framework in accordance with mandate from Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 82 in 2015 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Education Unit.
Hopefully, as the follow up of this socialisation and discussion, there will be discussion groups in 10 schools (one elementary school, 3 junior high schools, 1 extraordinary school, and 5 senior high schools) in Bengkulu and MoU signing with them.
