PUPA: Selection of Ambassador for Child Protection 2016 in Bengkulu

PUPA Foundation Bengkulu, one of National Commission for Women partners, together with the PPA Board of Bengkulu province held a Child Protection Ambassador Selection year 2016. The application process, selection and election was conducted from June to September 2016. This event was initiated by PUPA Foundation since 2015, and it has become an annual event in the PPA Board of Bengkulu province.

The theme for 2016 is “School Movement in Eliminating Sexual Crime”. Participants of the Ambassador selection was open to junior and senior high schools students in the Bengkulu province. They were asked to write their ideas on how schools can protect children from sexual crimes.

The finalists who pass the application process and selection of ideas, were asked to do a presentation. The elected ambassador will be announced and crowned during the anniversary of Bengkulu province on 18 November 2016. They are expected to be agents of change in society, especially in their school environment.

In 2015, the PUPA Foundation choose 3 Ambassadors for Child Protection, they were: Rahayu from SMA IT, Annisa from SMA N 5 and Nugi from SMP 4. To protect children from sexual violence in schools, Rahayu proposed an idea to make a ‘Vent House’ in school, Anisa created a protection team, while Nugi suggested that reproductive health and sexuality education should be given in schools in order to prevent the occurrence of sexual violence. Their idea was supported by the school, and the implementation of those ideas is already running.
