Mr. Sudarno, A Religious Leader Calls for the Importance of Reproductive Health Through Recitation Sermon

Mr. Sudarno, a religious leader in Cilacap, Central Java get a lot of important information on reproductive health MAMPU-‘Aisyiyah program. He sees that the information is important should be disseminated to the general public. Therefore, Mr. Sudarno who actively gives recitations session in Citepus village, Jeruklegi District, Cilacap decided to actively disseminate information on reproductive health issues to the public through his regular recitation sermon.

Mr. Sudarno is a teacher of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in several vocational schools. In addition to teaching, Mr. Sudarno with his wife Supri, is active members of ‘Aisyiyah since 2016. Since July 2016, Sudarno is chosen as the Branch Chairman of Muhammadiyah Jeruklegi district.

Before Darno was introduced to MAMPU, his teaching materials generally conveyed themes on Aqeedah, Fiqh and Muamalah. He has never touched themes such as reproductive health. Then, Mr. Darno learned through MAMPU-‘Aisyiyah Program. The program aims to improve poor women’s access to basic right of reproductive health in 5 issues, namely breast and cervical cancer, early marriage, breastfeeding, National Health Insurance and Family Planning. In addition, this program involves many religious leaders and community leaders to participate and to disseminate information to the public. Knowing the importance of women to take a good care of their reproductive health, Mr. Darno was then decided to actively spread the importance of reproductive health in every recitation sermon served by him.

“If the wife is healthy and then the family definitely will be healthy, and with a healthy family will form a prosperous family.” Said Darno.

He tirelessly spread information on the importance of keep reproductive system healthy and to take prevention tests as early detection for cancer such as IVA and Pap smear tests for women. With the belief that a healthy woman or wife will bring a healthy family, Pak Darno disseminate information on reproductive health in many study groups.

Darno does not stop there, apart from doing the sermons he is also actively participating in MAMPU-‘Aisyiyah activities through supporting their cadres and motivator in advocacy to village government. He also helped team MAMPU-‘Aisyiyah team to encourage other fellow religious leaders to voice the importance of reproductive health care.

Darno expects through recitation sermons people could change their mindset. “I hope we could think ahead and realize the importance of women’s reproductive health care.” said Darno.
