Yayasan Satu Karsa Karya (YSKK), one of the MAMPU Program Innovation Fund partners, is selected as one of the world’s top 100 sustainable solutions to development issues by SUSTAINIA100, a think tank based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

SUSTAINIA100 is an annual guide to 100 innovative sustainable solutions from around the world. The guide identifies readily available projects, initiatives and technologies at the forefront of sustainable innovation. It covers innovative solutions over our uniquely defined 10 sectors: Education, Energy, Health, Cities, Resources, Buildings, Food, Fashion, Transportation and Information Technology. The SUSTAINIA100 solutions are selected based on the three dimensions of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic.

YSKK was selected by SUSTAINIA because of its initiative named Tenunkoe Movement. Tenunkoe Movement is a women weavers empowerment movement in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province of Indonesia. Tenunkoe is intended to encourage the public to share their support for the marginalized women weavers in NTT by giving donations for small business capital, purchasing their products, and submitting ideas and product designs.

YSKK Tenunkoe, piloted the world’s first Tenun Jam: a design-a-thon where creative and enthusiastic young people from Jakarta formed teams and “jam” or work together to create new products that the women weavers in Kupang can produce. It used crowdsourcing method that made YSKK stand out from other similar initiatives.

Some main activities of YSKK Tenunkoe, are:

  1. CAPACITY BUILDING. Capacity building is given through trainings on business management, quality enhancement, and product development to produce new woven-based products.
  2. FINANCIAL/CAPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE. The establishment of a cooperative to manage the capital of the women weavers groups.
  3. MARKET ACCESS. Establishing marketing infrastructure through digital media to expand the marketing region as well as a wider access for donations to be used as additional capital.
