Australian Consul-General in Makassar Visited PEKKA Secretariat in Buton, Southeast Sulawesi

Australian Consul-General in Makassar, Richard Mathews, was visited the PEKKA (Empowering female heads of household) secretariat in Wolowa, Buton Island, Southeast Sulawesi on 9th June, 2016.

On the occasion, Richard Mathews and the Australian Consulate-General staff members intended to listen directly the Pekka Buton’s activities and development.

Pekka Field Facilitator, Yusniah, gave an introduction before the discussion started. Linda, one of Pekka cadres, explained about MAMPU program activities that have been and are being run in the Bau-bau region. One of the activities is discussion and KLIK social protection that involving stakeholders and communities as beneficiaries. The focus of the program is empowering and helping the poor women to access government services. In addition, PEKKA members also explained the ups and downs of activities during the implementation.

One of Pekka Buton staff, Nafisa Waode mentioned, “There is a positive changes after discussions and KLIK social protection activities in Buton. We can establish good communication with the local government.”
