LBH APIK Visited North Jakarta Police Office for Violence Against Women and Children Cases Handling

On 18 July 2016, LBH APIK Jakarta together with Paralegal in Cilincing, Kalibaru, Pademangan, Muara Baru, North Jakarta conducted a hearing with the Head of Women and Children Unit (UPPA), North Jakarta Police Office. The meeting which held at the North Jakarta Police’s office, aims to introduce the Paralegal Community of LBH APIK Jakarta and do coordination related to women and children victims of violencecases handling in the region.

There were 6 Paralegal, 6 representatives of LBH APIK Jakarta, and 5 representatives of the North Jakarta Police Office who attended the hearing. LBH APIK was accepted by AKP. Krismastuti, Head of PPA Unit and her staffs.

During the meeting, LBH APIK was informed that the current handling of women and children victims of violence cases can be proceed through the sub-district command police office (Polsek). In every Polsek, there will be two Police Women to handle the case, but still under the Criminal Investigation Unit.

In this hearing, the paralegal also shared their problem on handling cases in the field. There are police at the police station that scare the victim. Thus, Head of the PPA unit will following up this report.

As the response of the hearing, the North Jakarta Police Office are committed to cooperate further with the LBH APIK Jakarta and community. In handling violence against women and children cases, the North Jakarta Pollice Office will involve paralegal of LBH APIK Jakarta. There will be a MoU with the Police Office and also follow-up meeting to encourage the Integrated Criminal Justice System – Handling Cases of Violence against Women (SPPT- PKKTP).
